To Learn Is To Grow

Ever wondered what you could achieve, if only you had the right teacher? Welcome to the place where you'll never stop growing, no matter how much you know.

Philosophy

Learning takes two things, openness and determination, and those two things have to come from both sides of the process. Students don’t all learn the same way. Trying to force teaching into an inflexible system just frustrates everybody. If your child is struggling, maybe the teacher isn’t flexible enough. That’s how many of us started homeschooling, and it’s why tutors exist.

What makes me different?

My Skills are numerous

I’m what they call a Jane of all trades. I love finding solutions and creative ways to add to my life. I play seventeen musical instruments, draw, sew, paint, reupholster, and papier-mâché. I think power tools are cool. I’m a published author. I never consider that I can’t do something, I just try.

I Don’t Believe in Failure

I’ve always loved the story of Thomas Edison trying to make a light bulb. When asked how many ways he’d tried an interviewer was astonished to learn he’d hit the thousand mark and wanted to know if Edison were ready to throw in the towel. Edison explained that failure was part of the process. He hadn’t made a thousand duds, he’d narrowed down a thousand methods that wouldn’t succeed. And we all know he eventually did make a light bulb.

You either succeed or learn.  You are never too late to learn something.  My oldest piano student is eighty nine and he’s progressing nicely. It all comes down to commitment.

It’s Never My Way or the Highway

There are lots of ways to learn and lots of ways to teach. There is never one way to accomplish something. I believe that trying to make a student learn with only one method can only result in stifling creativity. If a student struggles to learn I will try to find another way to teach until we find common ground.

My Mission

I offer fun lessons and professional tutoring with one simple goal — to  help students feel the joy of learning.

About Me

I’m here because nothing is more exciting than that moment when a student discovers something they’ve never known before. Whether it’s the “a ha” moment when someone finally gets a math concept that had eluded them, or the amazing pride a student feels at doing something they never thought they’d do, I love being part of the process.  That’s why I teach.
